In the wizarding world, theDark Mark is Lord Voldemort's personal symbol and the distinguishing mark of his most loyal followers, the Death Eaters. It takes the form of a skull encircled by a snake and has two main aspects. Firstly, it is engraved like a magical tattoo on the left forearm of Death Eaters, enabling them to communicate by burning and respond instantly to their master's call. It can also be projected into the sky using the Morsmordre spell to instil terror, providing a sinister signal that Death Eaters have struck or committed a crime in a particular place. Its appearance over the site of the Quidditch World Cup or the astronomy tower at Hogwarts remains one of the darkest moments in the saga.
